Designing the Perfect Wedding Stationary: say “I do!” to these personal and eye-catching ideas

A save the date design made using The Artifex Forge's fine liner type effects and brushes for Adobe Illustrator.

Everybody loves a wedding right?  While this ceremonial occasion might not be everyone’s cup of tea, for many of us a wedding is an opportunity to showcase love, commitment and our unique personalities.  Although the big showstoppers (the DRESS, the SUIT, the VENUE, the FOOD, the CAKE, the FLOWERS…) are important, getting too wrapped up in these can distract from other places to bring in the happy couple’s individuality.  Whether you want an elegant, quirky, country or vintage theme (others are available), the ‘Save the Date’ cards, the invitations, the table plans, place names and wedding favours offer a great opportunity to express yourself and your passions, while capturing your guests’ attention and imagination.

Over the years, the keen-eyed will have noticed wedding stationary popping up as a semi-regular theme in our product mock ups and we wanted to take the opportunity to bring all these ideas together to offer some easy inspiration.  First, though, we’ll need to ask the question that, if unprepared, can really throw you (as our wedding florist can verify) – what theme is the wedding? If you’re unsure, we’ve pulled out six of our favourite wedding themes and paired them with appropriate products to help you bring the personal touch to your perfect day.

Floral

In 2023, wedding planners noted a trend towards more traditionally styled weddings, with a focus on elegance.  While not experts, we feel that there will always be a place for classic romance, and you can bring that feel to your wedding stationary through a floral theme.  Whether you’re interested in the more realistic look of the Vector Florist or want to bring a touch of vintage chic, we have the tools to suit any arrangement.

vintage

While the world of weddings is ever changing, there are some things that never seem to change and ‘vintage glamour’ remains a popular theme with couples.  Whether you are looking for prim Victoriana, opulent art deco or a pared-back monochrome, there are multiple ways you can draw on the past for inspiration and connect into other passions.  Do you love books and stories? Why not publish your own vintage invitations? Or S.W.A.L.K your wedding favours through a cute postage stamp motif?

graphic

Sometimes you just want to shout out about your love but, if you’re unsure of how to get the right tone, taking a graphic approach to your wedding stationary can combine the eye-catching with the elegant.  Perhaps you want to capture your guests attention with the bold and striking designs made possible by linocut?

Whether you’re having a ceremony in a church, a tent or a woodland glade, a striking stained glass motif allows you to bring a certain spirituality in rich shades of your favourite colours.  Alternatively, the clean patterning of single weight line art rolls simplicity and complexity up in one neat package – what better way to sum up the harmonious balance of your relationship?

adventure

You’ve been around the world, scaled mountains and sailed the seven seas and you’ve got the next adventure planned for as soon as you’ve tied the knot.  But how can you capture all that energy in static wedding stationary?  With our nautical map-maker you can plot a course to the destination of your dreams or why not set your guests a treasure hunt challenge? The Wilderness scene sketchbook is perfect for a sweet twist on the outdoorsy life, and allows you to build a narrative across all your wedding stationary.

crafty

Look on any wedding blog and you’re sure to find any number of DIY wedding craft ideas but sometimes it’s hard to know where to spend your crafting energies – are you going to make individual wedding gift boxes for each guest? Knit a ring bearer pillow?  If you want to get the look that complements your arts and crafts know-how without spending hours, try out our Stich-Craft or Paper-Craft collections for an original look.

quirky

Maybe, when asked what theme your wedding is, you just shrugged and decided to go with whatever felt right for each decision.  To showcase your free-spirited self, why not grab your guests attention with an original retro comic vibe? Or, if you want to create a personalised wedding favour, why not write your own newspaper story about you and your partner’s journey together so far and make it look beautiful with our Newspaper Creator?

Remember, whichever theme you’ve chosen, if you’re printing out your wedding stationary, always consider recycled paper or card for a more sustainable day. ‘Something green’ looks set to be one of the biggest and lasting trends in the wedding world, which we are all for!

Here at the Artifex Forge, most of our friends are either long married or see no need to tie the knot so we’re reduced to the vicarious thrill of a wedding at a distance.  We’d therefore love to see your creations so please share with us on Instagram!
